Found this lovely place and was not disappointed. Wayne and lynda are really nice welcoming people. And have a fantastic information centre there the owners are relaxed about when you pack up to leave which is a god send if your waiting for a hour spell of no rain. The site itself is really beautiful toilets are clean. Always hot water for a shower and we was fortunate to meet the owner nice parents in laws on the site that we’re friendly and nice and chatty. Me and my partner louise will definitely be returning soon was lovely. Ps there is a train that passes but that’s not a annoyance at all and we’re in our mid 40s.

Lovely places near by to eat the white heart sells lovely 16oz steak with lovely views.

Great place

Great owners

We have found our favourite camp place.

A perfect weekend glamping at The Anchorage

We had a fantastic weekend glamping in the ‘FoDPod’ at The Anchorage in early May. The site is friendly, peaceful and perfectly located, with the town of Newnham a shortish stroll away, along a beautiful stretch of the Severn. Other attractions (e.g. Dean Heritage Centre, Gloucester, Chepstow, etc) are just a short drive away. The Pod itself is a converted and renovated Forest of Dean goods carriage which is finished to a really high standard, comfortable, well appointed and airy and includes a great en-suite bathroom/shower. We did several walks straight from the campsite and sitting outside the Pod by the firepit afterwards having a glass of wine was the perfect way to end the day. All thoroughly recommended!

Had a lovely, quiet weekend and this hidden gem of a site. We were the only ones on site, everyone must have read the weather forecast – very cold and frosty! Great during the day for walks along the Severn to Newnham. Recommend the food@theship for a cuppa in the rear courtyard. Bacon and mushroom bap ??. Back on site for plenty of time to read and rest. Wayne & Linda on hand if any requirements, lovely couple. Will return ?

Just back from a lovely weekend at The Anchorage, lovely, spotlessly clean small site with lovely walks around especially along the Severn to Newnham and dog friendly too. Run by the lovely on site owners Wayne and Linda who couldn’t have been more helpful. Highly recommended and will be back next year.

Very nice small site, good walks along the River Severn

Very welcoming and helpful owners. Had a 2 night stay, 5 of us in total in 2 units and an awning. Owner let us leave the units on site until late on Sunday afternoon as we wanted to squeeze in another day cycling. Also didn’t want to charge us for the extra person who slept in the awning. Very generous thank you. Nice clean facilities. Bit of a slope at the top of the field so chocks are needed. Some train noise but it didn’t keep us awake. We went to see the Severn bore, easy 40 minute walk up to the viewing area just outside Newnham. 45 minute walk to The White Harts pub. Good food but would advise booking for weekends as it gets busy.

Just home from a wonderful two night stay at The Anchorage Camping Site.  Wayne and his wife are very friendly and gave us some good advice about visiting in the local area. There is a lovely, reasonably level walk from the site to the village of Newnham where there is a village store and post office. The campsite facilities are clean and COVID secure, if you follow the directions on the posters.

We will certainly visit again when we need a local holiday.

Thank you

Spent two nights here in July, the hosts couldn’t have been more friendly/helpful. The information hut is as good as you will get anywhere, we needed the services of a vet and sure enough the info was to hand along with a recommendation from the site owner, he wasn’t wrong. Site is dog friendly with a secure field next door for walks, just out of the site is a path to Newnham which has 3 drinking establishments, two have super beer gardens, at the time of our visit none sold food but that could well change according to locals we spoke to. All in all a very pleasant visit, would be ideal for a visit to Chepstow races.

Perfect small site for our family gathering which included tents, caravan and campervan. The owners could not have been more helpful and their information shed is brilliant – they have put a lot of work into ensuring that visitors can access all the information about the local area they need. The walk to Newnham takes about half an hour along the river and there was a bus back if needed – even on a Saturday evening. The beer at the Black Pig is excellent. We enjoyed walks from the site, seeing the Severn Bore, looking for goshawks, and visiting Chepstow castle and the Dean Heritage Centre. Will definitely visit again.

Thank you so much to Mr. and Mrs. Roberts – we will definitely be visiting again. A charming site with good toilet and shower block, it was perfectly placed to visit our friends in The Forest of Dean and we had some great days out too! Gloucester Cathedral and the pretty streets nearby were wonderful. Clearly so much more to see and enjoy nearby, with good pubs and a lovely town just along the road. Best until last – never forgetting the home made jams and pickles you can buy during your stay! We’ve nearly run out so we’ll be back soon.

Lovely site, in AONB within walking distance of the village of Newnham and on a bus route. Very clean and neatly kept. Owners very helpful. We stayed 2 nights to attend concerts at the church in Newnham which we walked to via the public right of way along the banks of the river Severn – beautiful, took about 25 mins. Lovely relaxing site and great for other local activities. There is a railway line running near but it wasn’t all that busy and we had fun looking to see if it was a passenger or freight train. Lots of lovely birds and butterflies visited too. We were also able to buy fresh eggs from the owners, layed by their own chickens. Will definitely use the site again as the area is so lovely and great for walks.
